LEAF recognized and thanked community supporters at its annual Appreciation and Awards Reception on Nov. 20 at Technical High School. Awards were presented for volunteerism, charitable donations, coaching/directing excellence and instructional excellence

The following individuals were recognized:
Bob Feigh (Gray Plant Mooty) received the Phil Welter Award for Volunteer Service (named for LEAF’s founder). Feigh has distinguished himself during many years in his service as LEAF’s allocations committee chair as well as his volunteer service in his community. In addition to his LEAF service, Feigh has volunteered for Big Brothers and Big Sisters, United Arts of Central Minnesota and the St. Cloud Lions Club.
Dick Anderson (Holiday Inn Hotel & Suites) received the George and Shirley Torrey Award for Charitable Giving in recognition of his ongoing contributions to LEAF. Anderson has been a sponsor of the LEAF Night of the Stars Variety Show since it began in 2002. In addition, many hockey, baseball and basketball teams have called the St. Cloud Holiday Inn Hotel & Suites their “home” while participating in local tournaments.
The Coaching/Directing Excellence Awards went to Kevin Kiffmeyer and Jason Parker.
Kiffmeyer has had a distinguished career as the Tech High School choral director and football coach for the past 27 years, as well as a wrestling coach. In those roles, he has impacted the lives of thousands of students. He has also been a director, as well as participant, in the annual LEAF Night of the Stars Variety Show.
Parker has been band and choral director at St. Cloud Apollo High School for the past six years. During his tenure, he has demonstrated a passion for the performing arts and an extraordinary gift for teaching people of all ages. Parker has also served as a director and performer in the LEAF Night of The Stars Variety Show.
The Instructional Excellence Awards were presented to Meredith Boucher and Denise Huebsch.
Boucher is a teacher at North Junior High School. She has received the Leadership in Educational Excellence Award and was a state finalist for the Presidential Award for Excellence in Math and Science Teaching in 2010. Her teaching skills were demonstrated by the fact that her seventh- and eighth-grade math students made the most progress in the district. One student made more than four years’ progress, and another made nearly six years’ progress in a single year.Huebsch, a kindergarten teacher at Madison Elementary, has served St. Cloud school district in many capacities including Science Instructional Leader, Gifted & Talented Committee Member, and Staff Development Presenter. Her kindergarten students made the most progress in the district in math and reading assessments. One of her students made more than three years’ growth in reading and another made five years’ growth in math. Both of these students were in the bottom quartile at the beginning of the school year.
Following the appreciation and awards presentations, LEAF honorees and guests were treated to a performance of Tech High School’s production of the Musical Comedy “Curtains.” The Tech Drama Program was a recent recipient of a LEAF grant for the purchase of additional cordless microphones used in the production.The 2010 Appreciation Reception Program (PDF)
